"In order to design well, you can't design by committee. It's important that there is a single mind driving the process and the decision making. If there is a single thread and one person has driven the design process, chosen the product, selected the feeling of the home, you can tell.
"We've found over the years that our homes are centerpiece homes, they are the homes our clients talk about, the place of self, the place they come home to. For us, when we think about location, it's just about greatness. It's about an opportunity to create great things. We look for locations where we can build great homes with a great backdrop. So we build a great home on a premise that's already got a great landscape, a great site influence, and all the positive elements that you'd be looking for in a place to build your home. I never know until I see it. It's the situation where I'll show up at a site and I see the building. I see the building there and the people coming and going and I go to another site and see a building there and the people coming or going and I can't explain it. I'm very passionate about design and thinking about how all the pieces will come together. We build great homes that function as an element of their structure, not because it's a certain style. It's not any specific thing that's in vogue at the time. A main part of our design element is that we ensure that all the doors swing in the right directions, you'll find the light switch in the right place, your audio visual control will be where you expect it to be. You don't know why and you don't think about it it just happens to be there because we've thought it through for you. You don't have to think about that.
"It is hard for me to talk about quality because it is just a basic principle of the company. Everything is quality. Your expectation should be that you will always get quality from us, period. every product that we use is designed specifically for our products. We don't buy anything off the rack, off the shelves. we'd like to think that when you buy one of our homes you will have zero deficiencies when you walk through and you'll say wow this is fantastic, it's a piece of art. We are finding that our buyer today and over the last 5 years has really been looking for a change.The last 20 years they have been finding homes, vacation homes for themselves and their families a place where the family could go together as the kids were growing. Now we're seeing more of a demand for people to have the cool thing for them, the home with the elan, the panache, the place where they can show off to their friends whether that be resort or urban. That's a real driver for our company over the next 20 years. We want to service that need.
"My primary motivation is not to sell homes, or to change where people are living. My motivation is to build great stuff. I love design, I love building great things, I love doing my best everyday."
